Blue Skies

Many of you backed Upwind at levels that included PDFs of our oldie-but-goodie, sci-fi RPG, Blue Planet. If that includes you, I have shared access to those files via a Kickstarter message. Enjoy, and please let me know if you have any issues downloading the books.

A Year and a Day
over 6 years ago – Fri, Oct 13, 2017 at 12:20:32 AM

It is with a great deal of excitement and pride that exactly a year and a day after the launch of the Upwind Kickstarter I finally get to share the Upwind corebook with our backers! Though there are still a few legs left in our voyage, distribution of the beta PDF marks one of the most important waypoints. I am deeply grateful for the faith you have had in this project, the hard work of the contributors, and the chance to finally offer you one of your rewards.

As soon as I post this update, I'll send a link via Kickstarter to all backers receiving a PDF of the corebook. Download the game, check it out and please let us know what you think.

We have worked very hard to make Upwind perfect, but we know our tired eyes have overlooked a few errors for having read the book so many times. Accordingly, I am including a link to a Google form in that same message in hopes that we can crowdsource some of the final editing. Please let us know via that form if you find any mistakes we missed - let's make Upwind a shared project in every way.

I know we promised to have your Upwind rewards to you in October, but Stewart's passing made that impossible. We can only thank you for your continued compassion and hope that delivering the corebook PDF keeps the spirit of that original intention. The physical rewards will follow soon, and I'll keep you updated on that progress. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Ships of the Realms

If you had any doubts that skyships and sailors were the heart of Upwind, this brilliant fleet should relieve any such concerns. Originally commissioned for the stretch-goal poster, it is so evocative we had to pause the final layout so we could put it into the corebook as a two-page spread. I think it was more than worth the wait.

Just a Few More...

Wow! You've been quick about getting your Upwind backer surveys in and we sincerely appreciate it. We are waiting on a handful of final responses however, and need them before we can finish laying out the book and distribute the beta PDF for your review. Basically, what I'm saying is, send me your name, and I'll send you a game!

Please submit your response by September 17th. If it comes in after that we may not be able to get your nom de game in the book and that would be worse than a blown circuit box...

Two Tweaks
over 6 years ago – Sat, Sep 02, 2017 at 06:52:47 PM

As anticipated earlier in the summer, the passing of Stewart Wieck has had broad-ranging impacts on the gaming industry. Fortunately, Stewart's brother Steve and the team at Nocturnal Media are working hard to fulfil the company's commitments, going well beyond what any of Stewart's partners could have expected. As a result, it looks like we will only have to make a couple minor tweaks to the Upwind project.

Producing the special edition cover (a high cost for relatively few backers) and having the creative team sign the books (which has a complicating effect on shipping) for the higher backer levels are now too extravagant a use of resources. Accordingly, we will be refunding the cost difference for the special cover to those who backed it, and we will have to beg forgiveness and understanding from those expecting signatures.

If you have any questions or concerns about these changes in plans, please contact me through the Kickstarter message feature and I'm happy to chat.  Thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate this unfortunate circumstance.
