Latest Updates from Our Project:

A Name Change
about 3 years ago – Wed, Feb 10, 2021 at 06:33:23 AM

As you likely recall, Biohazard Games lost its publishing partner in the middle of the Upwind project with Stewart Wieck's unexpected and tragic passing (see Update #51). His life's work changed the landscape of the RPG industry and his passing changed it again. Though I remain grateful to Stewart and the team at Nocturnal Media for their support and the success of Upwind, it does not feel right leaving the Nocturnal name attached to this Kickstarter account and any future campaigns. Nocturnal Media is being shuttered, and the time for Biohazard to benefit from the name association has passed.

Accordingly,  I have made an official request of Kickstarter to change the account name from Biohazard Games/Nocturnal Media to just Biohazard Games.  This update is in fact one of the steps required to secure such an account name change, as Kickstarter is careful about keeping the process and reasons transparent to protect backers.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

Q-System OGL and Stretch Goal Tally
about 4 years ago – Sun, Feb 23, 2020 at 10:40:06 PM

One of the social stretch goals for the Upwind campaign was the creation of an OGL (open gaming license) for the Q-System. I am pleased to finally share that here, along with a detailed rules reference document prepared by Alan Bahr, formerly of Nocturnal Media and current collaborator at Gallant Knight Games. We are excited to see what others can do with this unique system and encourage you to share it far and wide. All we ask is that all associated works be respectful, kind and inclusive.

Speaking of stretch goals, in posting the OGL we have now delivered on almost all these promised products:

Illuminated Character Sheet - here

Navigation Chart (world map) - here

Ships of the Realms posters - here

Incursion print-and-play game skyship combat - here

Quickstart rules with a full adventure - here

Q-System OGL - here

Upwind Forums - here

This leaves only Three Beasts and the Q-System pod-cast series. Three Beasts is waiting on one more image and the final layout, and then the PDF will be sent to backers. In the meantime here is a little teaser to hold you over.

Regarding the podcast series, we recorded the first half, but I was not satisfied with how it was going, so we scrapped it and are trying another approach. Since it's new territory for me, I can't say just when it will be done, but know that I'm working on it.

We are excited to finally be nearing the end of this journey and are grateful for the unfailing support from all the project's backers. Thank you!

Signature Plates
about 4 years ago – Wed, Feb 05, 2020 at 12:17:44 AM

A while back I promised to make up for not having had the logistical capacity to provide the creator signatures that were part of certain backer levels. Well, as soon as they arrive from the printer, James and I will have a signing party and then I'll send out these cool bad boys to put in your core books. Adhesive signature plates (otherwise known as big stickers) all signed, sealed and delivered!

Boat Crew Ensign
over 4 years ago – Sat, Jan 18, 2020 at 08:49:08 PM

How about some more Upwind fun?

This text appears on page 73 of the core book:

"In the first session or two of a campaign, players should come up with their own boat crew nickname — ideally in association with an Academy Flashback — and design their crew’s pennant. Players can use the online template from the Upwind website to draw representations of their crews' ensigns."

Accordingly, we've posted a blank version of the boat crew flag to the Upwind downloads section of the Biohazard Games website. You can download it here, print it and have your players write, draw or even use clip art to make their own crew pennant, recording their exploits and growing their legends.
