Latest Updates from Our Project:

Incursion!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Jan 14, 2020 at 08:35:45 PM

I am excited to share the final version of Upwind: Incursion - Skyship Battles in the Twilight Frontier.

Incursion is a print-and-play miniatures-style, tactical wargame of skyship combat in the dim reaches of the Twilight Frontier. A target-and-destroy battle of sharp-eyed lookouts, daring maneuvers and devastating broadsIdes, Incursion brings the war between the explorers’ guild and the children of the dark out of the Upwind RPG and onto your nearest tabletop. The game is a fast-playIng, tactical challenge that depends on stealthy movement and decisIve actions, and since it’s print-and-play, you can scale up to fight as many ships as you want to put in the sky against as many opponents as you dare to challenge!

Shortly after posting this update, I will share the download link with backers through the Kickstarter message system. Please notify me at ([email protected]) if you have any trouble downloading the game.

Incursion will eventually be available for print-on-demand through DriveThruRPG. More importantly, the various ship cards will also be available for POD order, saving you the time and resources needed to make your own and providing you with much more durable versions of the cards with which to play. We'd love to hear about any battles you  have, so please post your "after action reports" in the comments below!

Speaking of major stretch goals, the Three Beasts campaign is being illustrated (preview image above), proofed and laid out as I type, but as previously offered, I will provide the raw text to anyone who does not want to wait any longer to run the adventure. If you want it, just email me and I'll happily send it along.

Thank you all for your continued support and patience.

Ongoing Goings-On

As you may know, without Stewart at the helm, Biohazard Games' Upwind publishing partner, Nocturnal Media, is being mothballed. As they close down and their bandwidth narrows, the progress on their remaining projects - including a couple Upwind stretch goals - has slowed commensurately.

Incursion is in layout and when done we will not only distribute the PDF to backers, but it will also be available for sale at DriveThru for print-on-demand. You will even be able to order the vessel tokens printed on durable, board game cards.

The Biohazard forums are up and running so head over to participate in the conversation. They were a social stretch goal, and truth is they need some Upwind love, as most of the conversation is about the new edition of Blue Planet we are working on.

Another social stretch goal was an Open Gaming License (OGL) for the Q-System and Allan Bahr of Nocturnal (and Gallant Knight Games, our publishing partner for Blue Planet: Recontact) has a couple versions almost ready to share. We are trying to figure out a way to legally codify that we give permission for anyone to do anything they want with the Q-System, as long at it is respectful and kind. Sadly, that is surprisingly hard to do.

Three Beasts is back on my desk for a final review, and Ross Payton (of Role Playing Public Radio fame) and I were just talking (well, emailing anyway) about it today actually. I'm excited to get the final edit finished and off to layout. Once the raw text is ready I will share it out for those who can't wait for it to be made all pretty.

Finally, as a fun holdover, I thought it would be cool to play an online game of Upwind with some backers. So, I will take the first 6 emails sent to me ([email protected]) with the subject "Upwind Online," and I'll work with those folks to schedule a mutually agreeable time for a backer's only, online Upwind session.

Upwind Forum
almost 5 years ago – Sun, Jun 02, 2019 at 10:27:06 PM

Just a short update to announce that the Upwind RPG Forum is now open for business! One of the social stretch goals from the campaign, our intent is that the forum will be an inclusive place where players can share questions and speculations about the setting, get mechanics questions sorted, and share adventure ideas and even Q-System hacks. We would love to see it become part of an active Upwind community that  adds content and new perspectives to both the game world and system.

Head over, sign up, engage and enjoy...

Upwind, GenCon and Blue Planet, Oh My!
almost 5 years ago – Sun, May 19, 2019 at 09:54:06 PM

Just a quick update to share the status of the pending Upwind stretch goals, as well as some of the other plans from Biohazard Games.

• I am reviewing the final editors notes for Incursion and hope to have it off to layout shortly.

• I am also making notes on Ross Payton's Three Beasts mini-campaign, so that should be available in raw text form soon and entering copy editing and layout shortly after that.

• We are still planning to send out book plates to premium backers and will post an image as soon as that is finalized.

• Though we are not running any official Upwind events at GenCon 2019 (see why below), I would be psyched to meet up with some of you for a backers'-only session. If you are planning to attend the show and want to play some Upwind, email me at [email protected] and we can set up a game.

• Though we have not made an official press release yet, I wanted to share about Biohazard Game's here-to-fore secret next project. We are teaming up with Gallant Knight Games to produce a new, 3rd edition of our award winning Blue Planet RPG. We are calling it Blue Planet: Recontact, and  we will be running an ocean of demos a GenCon 2019. Event registration only opened today but spaces are going fast. If you will be at the show and want to try out the new, evolved version of the game, you'd better jump aboard. We'd hate to leave you behind!
